Steenberg Vineyards forms part of the Constantia Valley Wine Region, the oldest New World Wine Region in the world. The region is known as a cool-climate region. We produce a range of much-loved wines through a process of environmentally considerate and dedicated winemaking.
From vine to bottle, Steenberg’s wines are primed to produce an experience that evokes the unique terroir of the estate.
Steenberg underwent extensive soil and micro-climatic analyses before a complete replanting programme was begun. There are 59.5ha under vine of which 70% is white. The philosophy is that the "wines are grown in the vineyard and then cared for in the winery". Special attention was therefore placed in obtaining the very best and latest known clones and matched to the correct soils and slopes.
Environmentally considerate farming practices are employed as far as possible, with the help of non-toxic, natural formulas of pest control, and the employment of natural predators for help in keeping the grapes as healthy as possible.
The 1682 Brut Chardonnay has a pale lemon colour and a delicate mousse. It exudes freshness and pure fruit on the nose, vibrant notes of Granny Smith apple, candied lemon rind and white peach. It is lively on the palate, displaying finesse and complexity with a crisp acidity. Flavours of lemon cordial, honeyed nectarines, toasted croissant and pistachio are evident on the palate. It has a long, yet refreshing finish. This Méthode Cap Classique is the quintessential drink for all occasions.
This pale, petal pink dry Rosé delivers subtle fragrances of boysenberry jelly, watermelon sorbet, candy apples, red liquorice candy, ripe sweet melon and fresh herbs on the nose. The wine is full and creamy, yet fresh on the palate and entices further with notes of juicy raspberry, wild strawberry, spiced stone fruit and a zesty finish. This wine is light and flirty, yet shows great depth and lingers considerably on the palate. The perfect drink for all happy occasions.
